Restoring Versions
MixRestore makes it safe and easy to go back to any previous version of your project. There are two restore modes depending on how confident you are about the rollback.
Safe restore
Safe restore creates a new version with the contents of the older version. Your current state is preserved in the history — nothing is lost.
This is the default and recommended mode. Use it when:
- You want to compare an older version side-by-side
- You might want to return to the current state later
- You're not sure which version is better
Hard restore
Hard restore resets your project files to the selected version and discards all versions that came after it. This is destructive — the newer versions are permanently removed from history.
Use it when:
- You're absolutely certain you want to go back
- The newer versions are genuinely unwanted
- You want a clean history without the discarded work
How to restore
- In the version history, find the version you want to restore
- Click the Restore button on that version
- Choose Safe or Hard mode
- Confirm the restore
After restoring, reopen the project in Ableton Live to load the restored files. If Ableton is already open, close and reopen the project.
Important notes
- Always close Ableton before performing a hard restore to avoid file conflicts
- Safe restore is non-destructive and can always be undone by restoring again
- Hard restore requires typing CONFIRM to prevent accidental data loss
