Quick Start
This guide walks you through tracking your first Ableton project with MixRestore.
1. Add a project
When you first open MixRestore, you'll see an empty project list. You have two options:
- Scan for projects — MixRestore will search common locations for Ableton Live Sets
- Add manually — Click the "+" button and select an
.alsfile or project folder
2. Initialize tracking
Select your project from the list. If it hasn't been tracked before, MixRestore will
prompt you to initialize version tracking. This creates a Git repository inside your
project folder (in a hidden .git directory).
Your project files are not modified — the .git folder only stores version history.
3. Enable auto-versioning
Toggle the Auto Versioning switch in the project detail view. MixRestore will now watch your project folder and automatically create a new version every time you save in Ableton.
4. Work as normal
Open your project in Ableton Live and work on your music. Every time you hit Cmd+S, MixRestore captures a snapshot in the background. You'll see new entries appear in the version history timeline.
5. Browse your history
The project detail view shows your complete version history with:
- Timestamp and auto-generated commit messages
- BPM, key, time signature metadata
- Track counts and sample lists
- Arrangement visualization
