Introduction
MixRestore is a version control application designed specifically for music producers. It watches your DAW project files and automatically captures a snapshot every time you save, giving you a complete history of your project without any extra effort.
Why MixRestore?
Music production is an iterative process. You try ideas, discard them, revisit them weeks later.
Traditional file management — saving copies like track_v2_final_FINAL.als — doesn't scale,
and generic version control tools like Git aren't built for binary DAW files.
MixRestore bridges that gap. It uses Git under the hood for robust version tracking, but wraps it in an interface designed for producers — not developers.
Key features
- Automatic versioning — captures every save without interrupting your workflow
- Project insights — view BPM, key, time signature, tracks, samples, and arrangement for each version
- Instant restore — roll back to any previous version with one click
- Version tags — label milestones like Draft, Final, Approved, Experimental
- DAW detection — automatically detects running Ableton Live instances
- Lightweight — runs in the background with minimal resource usage
Supported platforms
MixRestore currently runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel). Windows support is planned for a future release.
